Not only does Williams head African American Cancer Survivors Inc. (AACS), a group dedicated to helping an oft-ignored population, but he has also written a book titled To Hell and Back Three Times: The Cancer Experience, with the title referencing his three successful bouts with cancer.

After being diagnosed with a very lethal form of cancer-stage four Hodgkin's Lymphoma-at 15, Williams endured those fretful words, "You have a very short time to live,” two more times before the cancer would go into remission. It has been thirteen years since that "ugly monster” last reared its head. Besides the medicine, Williams attributes "faith” as his saving force. He claims God visited him in a dream and confirmed, "You will live, until you die.” Those comforting words gave him the strength to fight the flight and realize his higher purpose in life.
