If KING were around in 1973, you can bet Tamara Dobson would have gotten some love. The beautician-turned-model who portrayed the title character in the classic blaxploitation flick Cleopatra Jones, died Monday of complications from pneumonia and multiple sclerosis in Baltimore. She was 59.

Dobson's character was one of only a few Hollywood - strong, independent, black, and proud. As Cleopatra Jones, the blaxploitation starlet was a kung-fu knowing, secret agent styled in a huge Afro and fur-lined leather jackets. If this sounds familiar, many will recall Beyonce noting the inspiration of Cleopatra Jones for her character Foxxy Cleopatra in 2002's Austin Powers in Goldmember.
