Yesterday was pretty nutty, huh? I was deep into a rewrite of a story on high school basketball phenom Greg Monroe when I got a call. "Man, what's up with Terrell Owens?” I was thinking, "Umm, I don't know. Dude says he's gonna prove doctors wrong and play against Philly in a few weeks.” But rather than just blurt that out, I hopped on ESPN.com and saw the headline, "Report: T.O. attempts suicide.” Sorry, Joey, but whooooa. I know T.O.'s on- and off-field saga with the 49ers, Eagles and Cowboys has played out like some helmet-wearing Desperate Housewives episode, but damn, I didn't think it was that serious.

But suicide? That seems even extreme for the notoriously odd Mr. Owens. I'm more inclined to side with a report I read in today's quoting T.O.'s longtime personal trainer, James "Buddy” Primm, as saying that a string of recent emotional events, along with all the supplement popping, were the reasons Terrell fell ill on September 26. "A lot of things were coming to a head anyway,” Primm told reporters, "and then this happened.” The "things” Primm were referring to was Owens missing his seven-year-old son's birthday party and breaking up with his girlfriend of three years.

See, mild depression and emotional overload I can understand. But ending it all? Now that's a much tougher pill to swallow.
