Don't front. After the box office debut, Oprah Winfrey appearance, and recent Essence cover, y'all thought Com was going to soften up and get all Electric Circus on us. Instead, for the first single off his anticipated Finding Forever LP, Common uses his newfound fame to properly broadcast his ever-celebrated and often slept on skill. "The People” is a Kanye West (or as Common repeatedly proclaims, the new Primo) production that sweeps together an unfiltered, NES-esque cluster of enough vintage loops that'll satisfy your most devoted sample head. Present is his"woo” worthy one-liners ("Standing in front of the judge with no honor…”) that refreshingly documents just about every aspect of ghetto culture that our favorite rappers always seem to forget mentioning. This record is great. -Shawn Lawrence James
