50 SHOTS (CHANGE GON' COME) - PAPOOSE

Brooklyn lyricist Papoose makes the first record regarding the murder of Sean Bell, who was fatally gunned down by New York police on Nov. 25, the day of his wedding. It only seems fitting DJ Kay Slay's solider speaks on the unfolding drama between police and the Black community. Along with the facts surrounding the "mystery” comes criticism of media and government figures including: veteran officer Mike Oliver, Patrolmen's Benevolent Association president Patrick Lynch, and John Podhortez of the New York Post. Sampling soul legend Sam Cooke's song of hope, a "Change Gon' Come” serves as both a refrain and a positive look on the future. In the aftermath of this dreadful incident, we all need the reassurance of a coming change. And Papoose is throwing his hat in the ring to make it happen. - Mike Brown
